Busy Busy Bee

What a busy week, dinner with Jacob's family Tuesday, church Wednesday, church last night, church again in about an hour, church tomorrow morning and church Sunday morning. Hmmm, are we seeing a theme here of what my life may be comprised of? Oh well, it's not usually like that, just one of those things.

I named the Literacy Center-- Pathways Family Education Center. To answer your question, Emily, this came about because there is a need! We have an above average poverty level, which translates to a lower than average education level. We were already starting the Food Bank and the Clinic through church- well, maybe I need to start over.

Our church is starting a new non-profit, Hope Central. It is comprised of a food bank (Manna Market) that will have vouchers for fresh meat, milk and such as well as the standard non-perishables. The other section is a Clinic (Abba Clinic) that will eventually give free exams and so forth. It is also a pregnancy center and will have a "store" where they can pick up baby supplies. I pitched the idea for a literacy center to go there too, and got it okayed. This is in addition to the new low cost pre-school we are starting at the church. Alright, now we are all up to date.

Pathways will offer classes to help people get better jobs and lives. We will offer everything from basic budgeting and how to balance a checkbook, to breastfeeding and parenting classes for new mothers. We will also offer tutoring for GED as well as elementary school, help with job resumes, interviews, computer skills etc... If it will help someone better themselves, we will offer it, in hope that they will teach their children the value of education. Here is a really cool site that has a lot of information about our goals. There are also really cool, free online classes you can take to learn more about how to volunteer at a place like this. Neat! I am very excited about the center, and though I know it will take a while to get it where I want it to be, I am hoping and praying for BIG things. I think it could really go somewhere, ya know?

So I have been getting stuff going on that this week too, which has been exciting. If you all could pray for a positive community response, that would be wonderful!

In Sophie news, this week she: learned to labbvhb try bfrftrg - type. That was her right there. She learned to laugh, flip her pacifier around and suck on the wrong side, (why? I have no idea, but she likes it), and started to teeth in a major sort of way.kjm More Sophie, right there. I hate to delete it because it is her first typing endeavor.

Jacob sold his old 4 wheeler this week to help pay for a new one. Today, he bought the new one, only to have it break after about 20 minutes on it. Needless to say, he was not a happy camper. But, the store will look at it tomorrow, which I thought was nice since it was bought as is, no warranty. Gotta love customer service.

Well, I think that brings me about up to date. I'm off to go to church. Sometime this weekend I'm going to try to catch up with you all, I'm WAY behind!!! Have a super-de-dooper weekend, all!

What an amazing endeavor you are taking on. You, and your church family, will surely be blessed!

Sophie (and her typing) is adorable. Too bad about Jacob's four-wheeler. Good news about the customer service.

My prayers are with you. 8^)

Very, very cool Andi! So the church pre-school Tina is doing is all part of this place? Are you having this all at your church? I'm really impressed. Talk about community outreach!!

I'm REALLY interested in the women's clinic. I used to volunteer (pre-accident) for several years with the local Pregnancy Resource Center (ran thru E'ville Christian Life Center) and loved it!!! Mostly ran pregnancy tests & counseled girls (I say girls, but you know, mostly under 21). I miss it so much....I'd love to hear more about that part. Like do you have a local doctor/nurse to volunteer, etc...

I also like the name for your literacy center!

Sorry this is sooo long. Remember - I had to move our family blog to the link above!!

I love the name!! You sound very excited and giddy about the whole thing and I think that is great. I feel like it's christmas eve and I'm like 8 years old knowing that there is a bike waiting for me under the christmas tree and I can't get out of bed yet.(with the whole pre-school thing) Too bad it's not pre-school "eve" I have another 6 months till the first day. But there is plenty to do in the meantime. Isn't it funny how our church is called Living Hope COMMUNITY Church and we're now really REACHING out to our community to touch them and let them see OUR LIVING HOPE inside each of us. HE has placed in our hearts a different drive and compassion for each of these new ministries and I'm so excited for all of us and for our little community. May they see HIM in us!
Love ya! Tina
