The Klutz and More

Well, it's late. The kids are wired up, I'm in for a long night. So here is a bit of what is going on. I hate that I have become a once a week blogger, soon I'm hoping it will be easier to get back to normal. Until then you guys get stuck with these uber long posts which I know sucks. Sorry. But for now lets talk about my favorite subject, my kids.

After my last post someone suggested that perhaps Sophie needed glasses. This is a very valid question considering that Jacob and I both wear coke bottle glasses. Squared. (God bless the inventor of contacts.) After talking it over with Jacob we decided to go ahead and get her checked out. I would hate to have her running into things all the time if it could be helped, but alas, she is just a klutz. The doctor said she was already nearsighted when she should still be a bit far sighted, a sure sign of glasses in her future, but at this point not necessary. Just clumsy. Dang. Here are just a few examples of bruises from this week, one of which led to me calling upon my friend Amy to get her medical advice to make sure she didn't have a skull fracture:

One running full force into the edge of a door (this would be the one that led to the phone call)
Falling from that fall and banging the back of her head
Tripping over my nursing stool and bruising her arm
Falling about 19 times a day while running
One tumble off the bottom stair
A heinous roll over incident into a sharp corner
Knocking her head into the coffee table while playing with Keegan
One random unexplained one on her face
And let's just throw in some poison ivy for good measure

Keegan is no better. The more he crawls around the more bruises he seems to accumulate as well. Sophie did not do this. Sophie was a docile crawler. Keegan, or Cassius as I am coming to call him. (kidding) occasionally takes on the appearance of a prize fighter, including the bob and weave. Butterfly, indeed. To be honest, some of his bruises may have been "helped along" by his loving and devoted sister whom occasionally likes to wait until he is pulling up onto something and casually knock him over. In her defense she usually says sorry, but I don't think it is always sincere. She's sincere by the time she gets out of time out, but she has a short memory span, not completely unlike a goldfish. (By the way, ours are both still alive. Thank you God.) In short, I have two very black and blue children which by no means makes us an ethnic family, though it does make me a bit nervous around cops. Talk about awkward.

Keegan is crawling up a storm and it's about 95% "proper" crawling and then he resorts to army crawling. This by no means suggests that he is slow. Oh no, he is officially into EVERYTHING. He has already learned to climb too, which is both amusing and unfortunate as it results in a lot of the aforementioned bruises. But if it's under six inches tall, by golly it's his duty as a MAN to force it into submission. Once the offending object is properly subdued he can then commence to screaming "MOMMMMMMMAA" until I come rescue him. I suppose Manliness only goes so far when you are seven months old.

In other news, Sophie is talking more and more, and she's pretty funny. I love to hear what is going on in her brain, it's like her thoughts mirror her actions. For example, she took a small blanket and put it on Keegan's head and proudly stated "Momma, Bid Boy Banket Hat". Right you are, Sophie. She also told Jacob on the phone the other day "Bid Boy twy" which you can read as Big Boy Cry. Then I picked him up and she reported dutifully, "Otay, Momma Bid Boy". It's amusing to hear how she sees the world after guessing for so long. She's also started to aske questions like what's that and why, to which I occasionally find it necessary to respond in my best mom voice the classic because I said so, that's why. Not all the time, but dang it, sometimes is IS the only reason. (Momma- you were right and I was wrong, as always, of course.)

It's also amusing though somewhat embarrassing to see how many of her words sound like bad words. It's a lot but I swear they aren't. Really. Promise. The hardest one to decipher is when she falls and lands on her bottom she says "Sit." I about came unglued the first time I heard this one, then it registered what she said. I don't know why I'm so nervous about her saying it, neither Jacob or I curse, I guess it's just one of those things, little ears and all that jazz.

Another "fun" thing that happened this week was trying to get Sophie to pee in a bag to make sure she doesn't have a bladder infection. She doesn't, but she does have some medicine now that has to go on her girl parts. This isn't a problem so much as keeping her from now spreading all kinds of "medicine" on her doll's girl parts. Nice. Oh, and did I mention the call to poison control after Sophie found a travel tube of toothpaste in Carly's room? I'm telling you, good times!

Sometimes it seems like we just have constant chaos, but it truth it's not. We have so much fun every day that sometimes it's a bummer when bedtime rolls around. Notice I said "sometimes". Other times not so much. Like now. I'm tired. Kids... not tired. That's how they roll. What they don't know is that they are rolling into bed anyway. Why? Because I said so, that's why.
