Meet Jade

My best friend Jade is a docent at the local zoo. She is also one of the most beautiful people I know, but that's another post all unto itself. She is one of the people that hold the animals for the little kids to pet and such. She loves her job there and so when we called to ask if she wanted to come with us she was thrilled. Even on her days off, she loves the zoo.
Going to the zoo with Jade was awesome. She knows all the names, both the technical name and it's name-name. Like that the really big snake's name is China. Plus it was fun to watch Jade watch the kids, she was just in awe of how they function. It was a hoot. And getting to spend the day with my best friend made for a great day.

This is her trying to get the alligators out for the kids to pet. She couldn't get it out by herself and she was more disappointed than the kids were. On a sort of related note, Jade is the only person I know who bawled hysterically when Steve Irwin died.

This is the Egyptian Tortoise. Sophie liked it a lot, Keegan wasn't that impressed.

The lizard generated more interest from Keegan, I can't remember what kind it was. Sorry Jade.

Did I mention that Jade is over six foot tall? Just an FYI.

Sophie is carefully checking out the turtles here too. Keegan was busy growling at the (Caiman?) alligator thing in the next exhibit to be bothered with turtles.

Keegan's favorite thing by far was this, the Tapir. I literally had to drag him away from it. He growled at this a lot too. What can I say? He growls a lot.

Sophie was attempting to check out the sights.

Keegan is checking out a sloth. Jade is feeling her ovaries tug at her soul.

Notice the professional "I know what I'm talking about point". Currently she is pointing at a squirrel monkey. I bet you didn't know that female squirrel monkeys have a fake penis to intimidate other females. Don't feel bad, I didn't know either. Jade is full of useful information.

Sophie Goes to the Zoo

Hey Dad, what's that?

Checking out the parrots.

I'm looking at something really hard...
I need to look a little closer....
it was a little flamingo. Mom took a picture of it but it was all blurry. Some flamingos just are not meant to be photographed, I suppose.

I played in the fountains and got all wet! I also went down my first spiral slide, which I was not too sure about.

Dad, what's that? Hey Dad...

Hey Dad, look at me feed this goat. They love this stuff!

Dad- this monkey was looking at me funny.

What's going on with this hole?

What's that over there, Dad?

Jacob and I both took the day off for our anniversary and took Sophie to the zoo. I have been so excited about taking her, and she loved it just as much as I hoped she would. She never slowed down for a second. I think her favorite was the pig, where she kept trying to make a snort noise. She also loved the monkeys, the giraffes and the hippo (who she kept trying to share her juice with). She walked all over, which is no small feat there because it is ALL hills. Big, steep hills. So she would ride for a while, then get out and walk and explore. She walked more today than she has ever before. She was so into everything that she didn't fuss at all. Not even once. It was really kind of weird. But as soon as we put her in the car she crashed. I'm thinking she will sleep good tonight at Momma's, where she is staying so that we can go out for a movie.

We had a great, great day. She is incredibly fun and we enjoy her company immensely!
