Christmas in July

Last Thursday I started going to a painting class with my friend Ashlie. Ashlie is a great painter, whereas I, however, am a little less gifted than say, a hairball. But off I went to our class that is at the home of an acquaintance of ours from work, whom I will call Milisa, because that is her name. Milisa is a fabulous painter and holds classes for free for her friends on Thursdays. She invited us and although I assured her I was incapable of doing more than a crude stick drawing, comparable to a cave dweller, only not so good, she insisted I go. So I did- grudgingly.

I have to tell you I had a marvelous time. It turns out that by some freaky fluke I knew every single one of Milisa's friends there, and under her instruction ended up surprising myself completely. I am working on a Christmas present for my mom, which in our world means she will get it for "Christmas" as soon as it is done and framed by Sherie. I am really quite proud of myself, and am looking forward to our next class, and so is Ashlie. It was nice to sit around a gab with a bunch of girls, with no men around, no kids around, just talking and painting to our heart's content. And when I left I was content, which was nice.

We decided that tomorrow we would have a Christmas party, since so many of the girls are working on Santa paintings for their families. We are all bringing desserts, so Ashlie and I made Christmas cookies, and Jada came over and helped too.

I'd like for you all to note the Liberty Bell in the bottom left of this picture- totally mine.

When I get my painting all done and Momma and I have a little Christmas party, I'll post a picture of it for you. Then I have big plans for other presents, so we'll just see how this all goes!

So in the midst of making cookies- I actually got a lot of work done. All the clothes that Sophie has outgrown have just been piling up in some tubs for me "to get to one of these days". Today was that day. So I organized, and organized, and organized some more, until it is all ready to finish up on Sunday afternoon when we organize our junk room and put it all away.

It still looks a little more than messy- but I promise, it is one the way to being all good.

Some of you may be wondering- how can she be Perri's daughter and not have everything organized already. How can she have a junk room. Let's just say that organization is NOT something that I inherited from my mother, much to my dismay, and probably hers as well.
In fact, I went to take a picture of my medicine cabinet to post for Patricia, reformed medicine cabinet voyeur, when I realized that not only could I never, ever share it with anyone, and that it was disorganized to the point that it was probably dangerous. So I am going to fix that soon too so that my shame will be removed from me and I can stop worrying about an avalanche of band aids, Tylenol and various ointments when I open the door.

i love that you are painting. i have the itch but none of the talent. my mil is a painter, as in she sells her stuff, even. and i curse the fact that she passed on not one single of those painting genes to her son.

i love the randomness of having a christmas party in late july. you are so fun!

and as for your junk room, well it looks like heaven to me.

i can't believe you're teasing me with the juiciness of a bursting medicine cabinet and you are gonna clean it first. those are the very best!

lastly (finally): somethin about the word ointment just gives me the willies.

I can't wait to see what you make for your mom! I went on over to Patricia's to look @ the medicine cabinet. What a cool idea...I think I'll be posting a picture of mine tonight. Although I admit I just cleaned it out the other weekends.

Patricia - that's NOT Andi's junkroom - that's her living room - only with stuff in it! Her junk room qualifies as a junk room.

Me - I'm very excited about my present. She almost showed me a picture of it the other day, but Sherie shamed her into not.

As for me and presents, Andi is currently carrying her birthday present I gave her the other day - a new purse, but her birthday isn't for weeks :)

We're just that way. Although, I bought her another little somthin' for her birthday and I may actually hang onto it till the big day.
