The Mom-mobile

So let me just begin by telling you that waiting until the last moment to see if the car seats will both fit in the Jeep is a bad idea. The answer was yes- barely- sort of. It was pretty pathetic. We have now given in to the seemingly inevitable and bought the ultimate image crusher... the mini-van. Not the cool, savvy portrait of ourselves we would like to paint, but rather the practical, forward thinking version of ourselves.

We knew that we want another baby in a few years so it just did not make sense to by a car. A large SUV was simply out of the question price-wise and gas-wise. Hence the new to us 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan sitting outside with our names on the title.

To be honest- I think I will love it. It has tons of space and both the car seats fit easily. There is lots of space in the back and on the side for groceries, strollers, high chairs, diaper bags, extra clothes, blankets and all the other accessories that seem to go with being a mom. My purse fits right next to me rather than over in the other floor board. I don't have to squeeze into the back seat to get out Sophie. And best of all, people can actually go with us, and have leg room, rather than taking two cars. Jacob embraces the practicality of it, but is far from thinking he will love it. To ease the blow I bought him a Colts license plate for the front of it. Besides- soon he'll have a police cruiser to make him feel cool, the van will be good to balance out his ego.

I have to tell you that when I graduated high school I did not picture myself at 24 with two kids and a van... but sometimes we get more than we deserve.
